For years, I've been known around the newsroom as "Grumpy Gus." My cynicism, honed by years of covering city hall corruption and late-night crime scenes, was legendary. My coffee was perpetually lukewarm, my deadlines always looming, and my smile… well, let's just say it was a rare and precious commodity.
